CraftWeek DC Kicks Off; Free Event in Mid City

"Free in DC" Free Events & Things to Do in DC!: UPCOMING: Highlighted Free Events from CraftWeek DC!:
 "FRIDAY, April 24th
Love Calls Us to the Things of This World
11:00am - 6:00pm

Irvine Contemporary Gallery owner Martin Irvine calls
Shawne Major's exhibition of found-object tapestries, featuring fabric scraps, beads and other detritus (on view through May 16) 'over-the-top.' Looking at pictures of the New Orleans-based artist's work, Tate says it looks as if Larry Fuente's 'Game Fish' -- a favorite Renwick Gallery sculpture in the shape of a sailfish made of old toys -- had 'mated with a quilt.'"

The Irvine Contemporary (1412 14th Street NW) seems to always be on point with their shows. Sometimes gorgeous, sometimes grotesque, the artists they select always make me think. Love it.

As Craft Week DC kicks off, the gallery is kind enough to host a free event. It doesn't hurt that IC is in the heart of Mid City, and really just downstairs. I'll stick my nose in.
